Titans Beat Monta Vista, Produce Two Champs in Ruppel

In their first league dual meet of the season, Gunn travelled to Monta Vista on Thursday and wrestled a depleted Matador squad.  Only eight of the 14 weight classes had matches, with the Titans winning four by pin.  Gunn is now 4-0 in dual meets and 1-0 in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL. 

The next day four girls competed in the “Dusty” Invitational while six of the JV boys competed in the “Ruppel” Invitational, both at Cupertino High School.  Led by champions Kyle Vasquez (152) and Mark Lassen (195), Gunn finished 8th in the team standings.

On Saturday an eight-man varsity squad competed in the “Bianchini” Invitational, also at Cupertino High School.  Led by finalist Ido Enav (138) and third placer Andy Maltz (285), Gunn placed 11th in the team standings.

The Titans have a bye next week (no league dual meet) but will travel to San Ramon Valley High School in the East Bay on Saturday, January 14, to wrestle in the “San Ramon” Invitational.  Gunn registered 14 more pins at the Dusty and Bianchini tournaments to give the Titans 55 pins thus far.
