Gunn girls tame the Wildcats in lacrosse title match

Gunn defeated host Los Gatos 9-6 in the SCVAL De Anza Division lacrosse championship match Saturday.

Senior Janis Iourovitski gave the Titans an early lead, scoring in the first five minutes.

Junior Emily Axtell and sophomore Grace Williams each recorded back-to-back goals, assisted by junior Andrea Garcia-Milla and sophomore Laurel Comiter, giving Gunn a 4-0 edge.

The Titans took a 7-3 lead into halftime.

In the second half, both defenses tightened up, though the Titans were able to score two more goals by Iourovitski and Williams.

Garcia-Milla led the Titans with six assists and senior goalkeeper Mikaela Wayne had 10 saves and two ground balls.

Comiter forced five turnovers, junior Sabrina Dahlen had four turnovers and Iourovitski added three.

Junior Becca Chapman had 3 ground balls and Iourovitski and senior Lucy Augustine each had two draws.

The Titans defense was led by Lucy Augustine, Sabrina Dahlen, junior Anna Tsai, sophomore Julia Stoneburner, and sophomore Sydney Hetzel.
