Fremont Takes Down Gunn 46-21 

Former Gunn wrestler Erik Duus, now in his 10th year as the head coach at Fremont High School, showed why his Firebirds are at the top of the SCVAL this season and are ranked among the top teams of the Central Coast Section on Thursday night when they hosted the Titans. Things started out strong for Gunn as the JVs won their dual 44-18.  However, it was a different story for the varsity as only four Titans were able to register wins in the Firebirds’ 46-21 dual meet victory.  Gunn is now 1-2 in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL and are 4-2 overall.  Complete results for the varsity dual were as follows:

Right after the dual both squads competed in the Mid Cal Invitational at Gilroy High School on Friday and Saturday.  This year’s Mid Cals were especially competitive as nearly 100 schools participated including most of the best teams in California as well as teams from outside the state.  San Diego’s Poway HS won the team title followed by Tuttle HS from Oklahoma with host Gilroy HS finishing third.  The top-10 teams followed by the top four SCVAL teams were as follows:

The Titans travel to defending SCVAL champion Cupertino HS on Tuesday and host Los Gatos on Thursday.  On Friday-Saturday the girls compete in their CCS Championships at Oak Grove HS.
