Gunn Girls Score Dramatic Goal in Final Minute to Avoid Upset and Setup Rematch for El Camino Division Title!
On Senior Night, the Gunn Girls scored a dramatic goal in the final minute to secure a tie against Lynbrook High School (8-7-2, 5-5-1) setting up a rematch against Los Altos High School on Tuesday. Before the game, the Titans celebrated with their four seniors, Eliana Kaplan, Ariel Kass, Inger Smuts, and Lucy Augustine, but it was a sophomore who converted the clutch goal for the Titans to save Gunn’s title hopes. The Titans started slow and spotted the Vikings two early goals with sloppy defense, but cut the deficit in half before intermission when outside midfielder Danika Heaney scored a rebound goal off a Lynbrook goalkeeper save. In the second half, the Vikings continued with their “kick ball” style of play, which frustrated the Gunn offense, but in the final minute, sophomore Allie Chu scored a header off of a direct free kick from Chloe Hetzel to secure the tie for the Titans. With the tie, the Titans (11-5-2, 9-0-1) remain undefeated in El Camino Division league play and now have a half game lead over Los Altos heading into their rematch with the Eagles on Tuesday @ Los Altos.
