Titans News · Gunn Football Starts Season at Soquel

Soquel 40, Gunn 26

Gunn jumped out to a 20-0 lead before injuries took quarterback Solomone Paletua and running back Lee Howard out of the game.

“Depth became an issue,’’ first-year coach Jason Miller said. “We ran out of gas. We played like world beaters in the first half.’’

Paletua scored two touchdowns before going out with an ankle injury. Howard, who was placed in concussion protocol, scored one touchdown and so did sophomore fullback Richard Jackson.

“Four of five offensive linemen are sophomores and they played really well,’’ Miller said. “But then in the second half we’re trying to play with a backup quarterback and a backup running back. We had injuries and Soquel exploited it. They wore us down. It was a learning experience. The guys have got to learn it’s a four-quarter game and to withstand punishment. We’ll be better, I saw a lot of great things.’’
